Introducing Poor Bear Stories’ First Internship

Introducing Poor Bear Stories’ First Internship

Jacob here!

I can say with certainty I did not expect to be working with a second person in the first year of launching Poor Bear Stories, let alone a third.

God has shown me over and over again, he has different plans.

Initially, it started out as a phone call with Special Operations Warrior Foundation. I was asked by the staff if I would be willing to advise a recipient and college senior studying film and video production on the industry. Without hesitation, I said, “of course!”

Well… one phone call turned in to a mentorship which has led to a fully operational Summer internship. Thanks to the Special Operations Fund and Special Operations Warrior Foundation, Poor Bear Stories now has our very first intern.

I am thrilled to introduce Madeline.

What’s more, Madeline and I share a very special bond. I will not divulge what could be sensitive information to Madeline and her family but I will say it has to do with a common sacrifice.

Alas, I am honored and grateful. I can only give the Glory to God. I am so thankful for His guidance and His hand in my life.

Without further adieu, please meet Maudie.

Hello, everyone!

My name is Madeline Muralles (you can also call me Maudie), and I have recently joined Poor Bear Stories as an Active Intern since June 2022. A little bit about me: Raised in Savannah, GA, I’ve always wanted to tell stories and showcase my creative mind in my life, and I discovered that filmmaking is an effective and engaging way to bring audiences into the worlds of a story. I furthered harnessing my filmmaking skills when I started studying for a BFA in film and television at the Savannah College of Art and Design, where I expect to graduate from in June 2023.

During this time, I built up my skills in developing ideas for stories, video editing, screenwriting, producing, collaborating with actors, and working on set as a crew member, in addition to directing my first student short film, “Dreams”. Later, I decided one day that the time has come to take my filmmaking knowledge and skills to another level to prepare me for the professional filmmaking world, so I contacted the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, who as supported me through my college education, to help connect me to potential internships, and they connected me to Jacob over at Poor Bear, who provided me with an exciting and wonderful opportunity that I couldn’t hesitate to take advantage of.

Upon joining Poor Bear near the end of June, I started off as a photographer for SOWF’s Operation EPIC conference, where I experimented with different methods and skills for creating engaging visuals through group photos and event photography, in addition to assisting with setting up equipment and serving as a stand-in for headshots.  Currently, my focus is on crafting pitches and collaborating with various businesses and non-profits to use the power of cinematic storytelling to raise awareness and connect those organizations with audiences and communities around the world. Before my time at Poor Bear Stories is up, I will have three pillar projects under my belt – a music video, a spec. ad commercial and a short documentary film. I hope for my time at Poor Bear Stories to further develop my skills in the craft of filmmaking and prepare me for what’s to come in the ever-changing art, and I’m confident that this opportunity will do just that! -Madeline
