2 Years at Poor Bear: a Reflection (MMM #31)
Greetings everyone,
Madeline here with the 31st entry in The Movie Minute- and a very special one indeed!
Last Monday was my 2nd anniversary as part of the team at Poor Bear Stories, having previously interned with Poor Bear Stories during the summer of 2022, between my junior and senior years studying for my BFA at SCAD.

I then found myself starting off on the 1st of September 2023 putting together highlight reels among other things, but I slowly started to get more involved in bigger tasks as well. These included assistant editing work on a feature documentary that we are producing with Iron Butterfly Media, communicating with clients via email, and the biggest thing- short social media reels from the different clients we work with to complement the highlight videos. Later on, I started to become more hands on as I was handed my very own Panasonic GH5 camera, which I started to use more and more as I got more involved with shoots we did for events with the Special Operations Warrior Foundation (Operation EPIC, College to Career Transition) and Legacies Alive (Mountain Man Memorial March, Gold Star Family Picnic, Army-Navy Game), in addition to producing reels for Legacies Alive and other clients, such as The Chertoff Group and ClearanceJobs.

Fast forward a year later, and a lot of things have changed. I’ve taken on bigger responsibilities, such as assembling my first highlight video from scratch for Strong Ties, as well as assisting Jacob with highlight videos for our other clients as well. The biggest thing that changed is becoming the team’s dedicated DIT, with the task of ensuring that all of our footage from each shoot is unloaded and backed up. Not only that, but I have been more active on set with PA work and interacting with clients and event participants as well.

Of course, none of this would have been possible without the immense support I received from Jacob and the team, as well as the amazing people at the Special Operations Warrior Foundation and the Special Operations Fund. After all, it’s through these organizations that I was able to not only get the necessary education for my career, but also how I was able to be connected to Jacob in the first place. I’m thankful to be giving back to these foundations as well by being actively involved in producing content to promote them and their missions.

Overall, I am more than thankful that I continue to be part of the Poor Bear Stories team to this day, and I continue to thank everyone that made it possible for me to get to where I am as I continue to harness the power of filmmaking to tell powerful stories that matter.
And that concludes this week’s entry in The Movie Minute. Wishing you all the best, and see y’all in 2. -Madeline
