The Power of Highlight Videos (MMM#37)

Greetings all,

Madeline here with the 37th entry in The Movie Minute– the first of December! For this entry’s topic, we’ll be digging deeper into the power of highlight videos and how we produce them!

With nearly every shoot we produce, the biggest deliverable shared among our clients is a highlight video. No matter what content or what client we produce for, it’s a powerful and effective way to showcase what the organization or event is all about. So, how do we craft such a meaningful project?

It all starts with formulating an idea. Usually, the basic structure should have a beginning, middle, and end that tells the story of the organization or the event. Once we’ve brainstormed such an idea, we then take transcripts out of the different clips and interviews, and prompt ChatGPT to create an outline or structure for how the highlight video should be structured, though we don’t always follow it exactly. Then,we have a rough assembly cut with all the best clips put together, and we identify a good music track for the video to be cut to, usually a powerful and engaging song found on Artlist. After layering the track and remixing it to be longer or shorter if needed, we trim down the clips while keeping the best parts of the interviews, having great b-roll to bridge them or cover j-cuts. We may also rearrange the clips to make the story’s appearance smoother and more active.

After refining the cuts to better match the rhythm and tell the story of the client and/or the event, we add a few more small adjustments to the visuals and sound, making sure to include detailed titles, effects, and often a logo as well. Finally, we share a draft with the client for thoughts and feedback. If there aren’t any potential further edits that might be requested by the client, we deliver a full resolution video file to them to share in any way they wish. This is usually done by Google Drive or Vimeo.

To wrap things up, highlight videos are one of the most powerful and engaging ways to tell a story for your cause. And here at Poor Bear Stories, it forms a core part of our work and how we tell the stories of the organizations we serve.

And that concludes this entry in The Movie Minute. Wishing you all the best, and see y’all in 2! -Madeline
