Powering our Workflow with Frame.io (MMM#45)

Greetings all,

Madeline here, hope everything is well with you all!

For this entry, we’ll be exploring how Frame.io forms an essential part of our workflow. It is a platform that allows uploading of drafts of our projects to share amongst each other that is simple and easy to use. And with its integration with Adobe Premiere (our go-to NLE), it has been crucial to being able to tell high-quality stories.

Whenever a draft is uploaded to f.io, it can be organized into folders for each project, and be shared as a link for review. The platform allows viewers to leave comments at various points within the video to mark what works and what might need change. What makes it even more useful is how it is integrated into Premiere. When using it to access f.io, the program allows for drafts to be synced with the video timeline, allowing the editor to jump to the point on the timeline where a note was left, making it easier to observe what exactly needs to be changed or what already works great.

But not only can we share drafts amongst each other, but with clients as well. We’ll usually share a normal link with them where they can view the draft and leave comments, but we can also enable options such as downloads and password protection if necessary.  While yes, we could also just upload the video to Vimeo or Google Drive and have them offer their feedback via email, using frame.io is much more efficient and interactive as it allows us to easily see where the client leaves their thoughts and feedback.

Overall, frame.io is one of the most important tools in Poor Bear Stories’ arsenal of tools for the stories we tell. Even when we put an abundant amount of refining for a rough cut, receiving notes from the rest of the team or from clients is expected. Regardless of the project or type of cut, feedback and collaboration are vital components to crafting the stories of the organizations we serve, and this platform checks both boxes.

And that concludes this entry in The Movie Minute. Wishing you all the best, and see y’all in 2! -Madeline
