Think Before Acting! (MMM#56)

Greetings all,

Madeline here with another Movie Minute. For this entry, we’ll be exploring why taking time is important in the filmmaking process.

We get it: sometimes there are tight deadlines, and emergencies can happen. There have been situations where we had to be like “Go! Go! Go!” because something needed to be done quickly. But most of the time, it’s important to take time when doing things such as setting up equipment and making sure everything is packed up. Much of our gear, from cameras to lighting, is quite expensive and has to be handled with care. If things are rushed when unnecessary, we risk having our equipment damaged, lost, or even stolen – which costs time and money and can snowball into something worse for the production.

Of course, there have been times where time has gotten tight. For example, there were times where we had to shoot footage in venues that had events running until closing time, and we were told by venue staff that we had to be out soon. But even with that, making sure everything is protected and accounted for is still a major priority, alongside the safety of our bodies and our gear, and everyone and everything else around us.

Overall, it’s important to always think before taking any action. I often say that it’s better to be safe than sorry- which is often true when it comes to making sure everything stays safe and sound. In the end, it helps ensure that we’re always prepared and ready to tell amazing and impactful stories.
