Video Production on the Go (MMM #22)

Hey all,

Madeline here with the 22nd entry in The Movie Minute.  For this entry, we’ll be exploring what it’s like when we’re producing content on the go!

As discussed in previous entries, we often travel when producing content for our clients. While we plan for set environments and rooms for us to conduct interviews, there’s so many things going on when we’re moving that we don’t want to miss the opportunity to gather good content!

First, we must plan ahead for every shoot, and factors can change depending on the mode of transport we’ll be taking (plane, train, car), such as the amount of gear we can carry, time it will take to travel, etc. It’s crucial that we pack all the essentials we need and that we do so in high-quality, secure containers to protect our gear from being lost or damaged.

We often fly to places to travel for shoots as well. Since flying on airlines can be hectic at times, we always want to do whatever we can to make sure everything goes smoothly when we travel. There’s also restrictions set by airlines on what and how much we can carry, such as having to carry batteries onboard. It’s also crucial to make sure that our most important valuables are carried onboard as much as possible, to mitigate the risk of important gear being lost in transit!

Once we’ve made it through the trip, we must make sure we got all our gear organized. When it’s time to go, we gotta be ready to go! And when we get to the venue, it’s time to get our cameras out and get plenty of b-roll, as good engaging moments come and go. Though b-roll is important, planning a strategy for conducting interviews is essential as well. Sometimes we have to improvise where we can set up an interviewing area. Whether we’re shooting at an outdoor event or indoors in a corporate building or conference room, it’s ideal that we have a good and less noisy area to film interviews. In addition, we must also be prepared for any sudden changes to the conditions where we shoot. Weather is one of the most common, as unexpected rain could come at any time and we don’t want to get our gear all wet. Ensuring that we have our batteries all charged up is crucial to a smooth production as well, and keeping our equipment safe and secure (through lens caps, protective cases, etc.) is a must.

Overall, producing video when we’re on the move is key to the stories we tell at Poor Bear Stories. It’s vital that we prepare as much as possible, and that we stay vigilant and alter when producing content as we move around from place to place, in order to tell quality stories no matter the setting.

And that concludes this entry of The Movie Minute. Wishing you all the best, and see y’all in 2! -Madeline
